What does "Low Shank" and "High Shank" mean?

It means "shank height" or "shank size".

Most domestic machines have LOW shanks.





Just to give you an idea, we sell about 10 low shank presser feet to ONE high shank foot. That means if you don't know what sort of shank your machine has, it probably has a low shank - which means this set is most likely NOT the one for you (we do have a LOW shank version of The Ultimate Feet Set. See separatete listing).






What does "9 mm" mean?

It means the "maximum stitch width" your machine can do.

Typically, 9mm feet are harder to come by and cost more.


Because 9mm machines have a different needle alignment to 7mm / 5mm machines, therefore most generic / universal presser feet simply won't work.

This ultimate set was made specifically to fit 9mm machines.

But How do you know what kind of mm your machine is?




Here's How To Find Out Your Maximum Width...

Simply select a zigzag stitch on your machine, set it to the maximum width, and start stitching. Now measure the width ofyour maximum zigzag stitch.

If your machine can produce a 9mm wide zigzag, then it is a 9mm machine :-)

Here's a list of characteristics of each foot, and what they're best for:

Adjustable Bias Binding / Taping Foot

Equivalent to Janome 202310008 (or 202-310-008)

Also know as "TG" Foot, simply use the dials and adjust the foot to suit various width of bindings.

A VERY specialised tool, all this foot does is put bindings around the cut edge of the fabric (often a contrast colour, might even be in completely different weight / type).

Using this foot ensures your binding is always neat and professional-looking; without any hand tacking or excessive pinning. 


Clear View Foot & Quilting Guide Set
(this is a 3-piece Set)

Equivalent to Janome 202089005 (or 202-089-005)

Also know as "OV" Foot, this foot is convertible to cater for three different functions: clear quarter inch foot with grids, clear 1/4" inch seam foot with guide, and clear ditchquilting foot.

Have you ever wanted to remove the guide from the 1/4" seam foot when piecing half square triangles? Now  you can :-)

With this new clear view quilting foot, you can see the fabric right through it and piece along the red guide lines on the foot.  Then simply attach and remove the guides as needed to suit your task at hand. Three feet in one - so versatile!


Quarter Inch 1/4" Foot with Guide

Equivalent to Janome 859814001 (or 859-814-001)

Stamped with the letter "O", this foot is also known as "Patchwork Foot", with a built-in guide that gives you a consistent, accurate seam allowance that is exactly 1/4 inch (or 6.3mm)... no matter how fast you sew!

In dressmaking, a 1/4" (or 6.3mm) seam allowance is perfect for curved edges like armholes and collars. Also useful in French Seams, it's easy to achieve neat and accurate results every time.

This foot is also great for making fabric bags and hats, where you would generally use an iron-on interfacing, and therefore need a smaller seam.


Clear Zigzag / Applique / Buttonhole Stitch Foot

Equivalent to Janome 202082008 (or 202-082-008) also 859806011 (or 859-806-011)

This versatile foot can be used for a lot of stitches from straight stitch to zig zag / satin stitches, buttonhole / blanket stitch applique etc.

Ideal for making oversized buttonholes for pram liners or pet products (where you need to thread the harness through) when standard size automated buttonholes from your machine just won't do.

You will also find it a very convenient foot when doing raw edge applique, embroidery, cutwork and monogramming.

Being clear, you have maximum visibility and control especially when working with intricate designs or going over delicate laces.


Stitch-in-the-Ditch / Edge Joining Foot

Equivalent to Janome 202087003 (or 202-087-003)

Also known as Foot "S", this Quit-in-the-Ditch Foot is ideal for precision quilting.

When this is stitched through multiple layers, the fullness in the batting creates shadow and that makes the stitching even less visible.

The guide on the foot spreads the seams allowing you to stitch perfectly in the ditch, and is also useful when adding decorative top stitching along seams.

Apart from giving you a perfectly straight "stitch in the ditch", this foot is also handy for joining two pieces of batting into one. Simply butt the two batting edges against the guide of this foot, select a wide zigzag stitch and whizz the two pieces into one!



Super Slim Zipper / Piping Foot 

Equivalent to Janome 859805009 (or 859-805-009)

Also known as Foot "E", this foot is newly improved and much slimmer than the squarish, wider snap-on zipper foot that often come with your sewing machine,

The shape and size of this foot makes it easier for inserting zippers, press-studs (or "snap") tape, and sewing pipings and other trims.

What this foot does is simply get your needle REALLY close to "the bump" (which is your zipper teeth or your piping cord) and still hold your fabric down as you stitch them, eliminating the risk of losing control or breaking needles.



Narrow Rolled Hem Foot

Equivalent to Janome 859804008 (or 859-804-008)

Stamped with a letter "D", this foot will give your projects a bespoke finish, by creating beautiful (2mm finished) narrow rolled hems on lightweight fabric, which could be extremely tedious if done by hand (could you imagine even trying...?)

Like all specilty finishes, be sure to test your chosen fabric / thread / needle before commencing, so that you can be 100% confident that your narrow hem will come out every bit as professional as it could! 



Narrow Pin Tuck Foot

Equivalent to Janome 202094003 (or 202-094-003)

Stamped with "N2", this is the narrower version.

Use the pintuck foot to create raised 'tucks' in the fabric in conjunction with a narrow twin needle.

The grooves underneath is designed to accomodate paralelle rows of tucks as you sew.

Traditionally used for heirloom sewing, this technique is great for embellish heirloom garments (say, Christening gowns) but it's more common these days to see pintucks on table clothes, bed linens and vintage style garments.


Narrow Beading Foot

Equivalent to Janome 202097006 (or 202-097-006)

Embellishment made fast and easy, the beauty of this foot is actually quite simple...

The groove on the underside of the foot guides the string of beads, cord or yarn as you stitc, while beads nestle into the groove (this one is 2mm) on the underside of the foot.

Simply set your machine to a zig-zag stitch to encase the string of beads (works the same way as cords or yarn). As the beads pass by, they are secured by the zigzag stitch. No more beading by hand!



Button Sewing Foot

Equivalent to Janome 859811008 (or 859-811-008)

Do you find sewing buttons by hand tedious?
I know I do.....

Now you can use this foot to sew buttons onto practically any garment - with your sewing machine. Simply place your button between the blue prongs, and set your machine to the exact zagzag width of the buttonholes. Easy!

If you are making a new outfit with button-through features - such as a shirt-dress - imagine how much time you'll save with this foot :-)


Gathering Foot

Equivalent to Janome 202096005 (or 202-096-005)

Use this foot for lightly gathering fabric as well as attaching the gathered edge to a flat (ungathered) fabric - at the same time - quickly and easily.

The gathering foot will allow you to gently ease or slightly gather fabric for various garment and home decorating applications.

However, if you are looking at creating fuller / heavier gathers / ruffles, then it is best to try a "ruffler".


3-Way Cording Foot

Equivalent to Janome 202085001 (or 202-085-001)

This foot is used to installed one to three cords lengths in place for cording.

Traditionally used for embellishing military / ceremonial style dress trousers with decorative cord down the length of outside leg, you can also embellish cushions, garments, or whatever you like with this amazingly easy to use foot.

Try different threads, cords and fabric combination to creat one-of-a-kind result. Have some fun with it!


9mm High Shank Foot Holder / Adaptor 

Equivalent to Janome 859081005 (or 859-081-005)

Most of the general presser feet that come with your sewing machine are "Snap-On" or "Clip-On". There would have been one of these on your machine if you purchased a new machine.

This one simply provides a back-up, in case you cannot locate your original one after taking it off to put on a "screw-on" foot such as your walking foot or darning foot.

Not having an adaptor simply means you CANNOT use any snap-on feet - which would be most of the feet that came with your sewing machine. Can you live without one?
